Having successfully created for some years, paintings, drawings and collages, I have recently returned to making sculptural works, the area of Fine Art that I was trained in and taught for many years. I am lucky enough to be able to create work at my home studio, with the necessary time needed to be fully engaged and motivated by what I am making, exploring and developing. I don't work in a thematic way, each piece evolves from a germ of an idea which can come to me through all sorts of channels and interests. However, what links my current work is the gilding process. I use gold leaf for its inherent qualities of reflection, warmth and colour, but above all it involves a slow, meticulous method of application which I find compelling whilst it also references the history of art going back thousands of years. When I am not sculpting, similar eclectic ideas are made manifest through drawing.
