Phillip Shields

My name is Phillip Shields and I have been painting for over a decade now, mostly watercolors and oil on canvas. Artist who have inspired me are Paul Gauguin's use of color, Rembrandt's expressions on his portraits and Vincent Van Gogh's inventive and detailed brushwork. Winslow Homer's seascapes use of color and style depicting the waves, sky, land and people within his seascapes have inspired me. I’m mostly a self taught artist and have learned a significant amount from artist I’ve studied. The freedom to establish brushstrokes from any angle and destination a person perceives or conceives and placing it on a canvas, paper, etc. is a pleasure! I always try to make the last brush stroke as good as the first one in each painting I create!
