Otilia Gruneantu Scriuba

I am a mixed media painter and a print maker based in Toronto. At 10 I decided to be an artist. I obtained my Bachelor’s in Fine Arts and Pedagogy of Art in 2004, from West University, Visual Arts Faculty, Timisoara, Romania and I continued to be an active artist ever since. The five words that define me as an artist are: experimentation, colour, texture, symbol and feelings. At 14, I was the recipient of the Honorable Mention for Painting in a national competition for students. In 2012, I obtained the prize “The most favoured Artist” at Roncy Rocks Art & Music Festival in Toronto.
Each of my paintings communicates feelings and emotions. I aim to create imaginary journeys and universes, inspired by my dreams, by my imagination, by art history and by my personal sense of the reality. These universes emerge in different historical epochs and geographical spaces, on the sky, above clouds, in and around the ocean, around fire, in sunny gardens, in fictional cities and in made-up interiors. I am a member of the Romanian Artists Union, Graphics Department, since 2007 and currently, I am represented by ArtWorks Art Association Oakville, the Etobicoke Art Group of Neilson Creative Park Etobicoke, and in Timisoara, Romania by “Helios” Art ...

I displayed my art in many juried and group art shows in: Canada, USA, Romania, Mexico, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Spain and France. Also, I opened 14 solo shows in Toronto (Yorkville, Danforth, midtown, Etobicoke and North York), Hamilton, Oakville, as well as in Romania in Timisoara and Lugoj. My paintings and prints were featured in art publications. Some examples are the “2015 Romanian Graphics Art”, the “2012 Encyclopedia of Romanian Artists” and the “2005 and 2009 Mini Print Internacional de Cadaques, Barcelona”.
