Helena Aikin

I was born in Madrid, and have worked and studied in Spain, the UK and the USA.I am an eclectic artist, and have experimented in all sorts of art forms: illustration, watercolour, oils, acrylics, collages, etchings but probably my favourite is sculpture, as I have always been fascinated by the third dimension. I in clay, wood, stone, polyester, bronze,recycled paper, natural resins, sands and mineral shavings. As subject matters I have covered from freakish expressionistic urban types to prehistoric looking pieces pertaining to fictional archaeological sites. My most recent exhibitions have involved thematic installations, conceived during my fruitful stays at different artist residencies (Fundacin Valparaso, Almera, Spain; VI Encuentro de Artistas Valle del Genal, Mlaga, Spain; Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annamakerrig, Ireland, Convento Sao Francisco, Portugal, Foundation Obras, Portugal). These installations sometimes accompanied by music composed by Eva Gancedo for the occasion- are an invitation for the spectator to participate in the work of art, by either interpreting the re-created worlds, or by walking into it to modify it.
