ABOUT
EXHIBITIONS

Largely lacking formal training as an Artist, Huck has spent years studying the principles of visual art as well as learning techniques from other Artists that inspire him. This freedom has allowed him to readily adopt tried and tested methods, as well as find which principles he would deviate from to develop his craft and style.

The purpose behind Huck’s work is to explore and challenge archetypes (like the Hero or the Maiden) that are shared among different cultures regardless of barriers like geography or ideology. He is especially inspired by how these cultural or mythological images can be worked to transcend boundaries between viewers. Huck focuses on specific aspects of these common archetypes, such as the nature of masculinity as found in a hero/ warrior figure. His work often takes aim at these traditions, whether through humour or by darker means.

In terms of style, Huck is drawn to figurative realism and symbolism. True representation of nature has not been emulated in his work however, as he has come to favour more of a loose approach in technique, often using impasto alongside glazes, as well as indulging in exaggeration of colour and shadow in much of his work.
