I have always drawn or painted. I remember coming home from school at a young age and immediately sitting down with my paper and pens, just happy to be drawing. I studied for my degree in History of Art and Visual Studies at Oxford Brookes University, then went on to work as a graphic artist for many years in the UK, Japan and France.
As my three children are growing up rapidly, I find have more time to dedicate to large detailed oil paintings. I walk with my dogs through woods everyday and am inspired by nature and sunlight, I endeavor to record its effect on a variety of subjects.
Recently, I have been concentrating on the delicate qualities of reflected light to capture the extraordinarily subtle variations of colour within the fine translucent petals of flowers. I like to zoom in and find the flowers take on an almost abstract quality. I paint in several layers of thin oil paint, a slow process as you have to wait for each layer to dry! Gradually it builds up the image until I am satisfied.
