Flanzella uses the transformative medium of collage to question the status quo of our Western society. Rooted in a feminist lens, her artwork is made of magazines sourced from the 1920’s to 1990’s. These magazines are chocked full of misogynistic, unrealistic, expectations; making them a perfect medium for humour and criticism.
Flanzella weaves together almost a century of lifestyle and culture through this medium and shows how society has changed, and how it hasn’t. We have come a long way, but our everyday life is still affected by misogyny and capitalist ways.
With the help of her cutting tools and adhesive, she creates visually captivating works that critique social norms and the status quo. Flanzella enjoys including humour in her artwork and loves to get people talking!
She describes her artistic process as “organized chaos”. Using intuition and analysis, "piles of potential" start to form on the desk. These piles have complimenting colours that juxtapose the original meaning. Carefully, the pieces are cut, sorted, arranged, and glued together.
