Florencia Alvarado

Visual artist/Photographer born in 1984 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Works in Caracas.

Florencia Alvarado (Maracaibo, 1984) studied Graphic Design at La Universidad del Zulia and obtained studies Master in Communication Design at Universidad de Buenos Aires. She held workshops in documentary photography, cinematography and contemporary photography in Buenos Aires. Alvarado has given workshops on self-portraiture and intimate discourse, and the book-object. She was selected for the show 30 Women Photographers Under 30 (2012), and has participated in the Salón de Jóvenes Artistas where she twice received an honorable mention. Alvarado has exhibited at the Salón de Jóvenes with FIA, receiving the third prize in her second participation. She was part of the exhibition Paisajes del cuerpo, held at the Alianza Francesa in Madrid (PhotoEspaña 2013) and featured at the Night Contact selected by Thurston Moore at the Brighton Photo Biennal 2014. Otras Iluminaciones (Espacios del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del Zulia 2013) was her first solo exhibition, and in September the exhibition Soplos de vida (Galería El Hatillo 2014) opened. Currently, she is a photo editor at Backroom Caracas, a contemporary art space.
