Francesco Costantino

I am a figurative and abstract painter working primarily with oil on canvas. I studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo and completed an Erasmus program at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, France. With over 20 years of experience, I divide my time between Palermo and Milan, Italy.

My artistic practice is deeply physical and tactile — I treat the canvas almost like a sculptural material, layering and carving paint to excavate images and meanings. This process allows me to engage with strong and clear references to art history while seeking to create a unique and personal visual language.

I also gained valuable experience working as an assistant to the artist Aleksandra Mir for almost a year. My work has been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions in Palermo, Milan, and Berlin.

Through my paintings, I invite viewers to explore the tension between materiality and memory, surface and depth, past and present.
