Frank Brennan

I was born and grew up in Ireland but have lived for most of my adult life in London. After more than thirty-five years working in the theatre, I began to extend my interest in the arts to painting and sculpture and these have now become my primary focus. Not only has this opened up a whole new world of creative possibilities but it's also given me a unique opportunity to draw together and build on all the skills, interests and experiences that I’ve acquired over the years.
Narrative is hugely important to me – whether that be the narrative that informs or inspires a particular work or narrative that is explored and expressed through it.
While certainly both acknowledging and striving for the Duchampian view that it is the ‘idea’ which must have primacy in any work of art, in reality, my gut is and always has been the final arbiter in determining whether I undertake a work or not.
Looking to the future, in addition to developing my own practice, I have a number of exciting ideas that I’m keen to explore for working collaboratively with artists from other disciplines, for example, mime artists and/or illusionists.
