Gayil Nalls, Ph.D. (American, born 1953 in Washington, District of Columbia) is an interdisciplinary artist and theorist living in New York, New York. She has had 27 solo exhibitions and her work is housed in the collections of major museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her artistic practice originates in philosophical investigations of personal and collective sensory experiences, memory and identity, and often include the relationship of these experiences to disappearing ecologies. Her multimedia work frequently unites artistic, scientific and technological approaches. She has been a pioneer of sensorial works, installations, environments and events and an influential contributor to the aesthetics of crowds and human massing.
