Lloyd Gill

My art comes from deep within. When I paint, the abstraction flows like a river and tussles and shakes. I love painting directly from the subconscious and never paint from photographs. I always paint from memories of life, be it nature to music, to love and laughter, to colours and details.

I am influenced by the abstract expressionists of the 1950’s, including; Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Matta, and Parisan Surrealism of the 1920-30’s, including; Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Paul Klee, Georgio de Chirico. They are my favourite painters and are very influential to my art.

My paintings use the automatism technique and flow widely into abstraction. I like viewers to concentrate hard to see objects that other people do not. I want viewer’s to use their creative mind to observe what they are seeing in my work and to make their own opinions on what it is.

I find painting fun.
