Giorgi (Gio) Janiashvili is a composer whose boundary-defying creative practice incorporates acoustic and electronic music, sound, video, multimedia performance, installation, new media, and graphic art.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Janiashvili is a permanent U.S. resident based in New York City.
Janiashvili has staged concerts, multimedia performances, and exhibitions at renowned international venues. His works have been showcased at the Southbank Centre, Royal Observatory Greenwich, Laban Theatre, Blackheath Halls, Institute of Contemporary Arts London, Abrons Arts Centre, The Tank NYC, ShapeShifter Lab, National Gallery Prague, Nostitz Palace Prague, Messe Frankfurt, Museum of Georgia, Georgian National Gallery, Tbilisi History Museum, and Tbilisi State Conservatoire. He has received commissions for the 12th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, Frankfurter Buchmesse, Surrogate Cities Exploded!, and Impossible Brilliance: The Music of Conlon Nancarrow; from a violist Rivka Golani, CoMA Voices, City Lit London, Goethe-Institut, Polish Institute, among others. His work has been published by PWN Warsaw.
Bachelor of Music (2012) and Master of Music (2013) from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London, UK.
He is a recipient of the Leverhulme Trust Scholarship, Beatrice Taylor Scholarship, Ludwig Lebell Scholarship, Trinity Laban Scholarship, TCL Scholarship, and Vivian Prindle Outreach Prize, among others.
