Born in Naples(Italy). Live and work in Rome.
Noia’s figurative works are typically painted from pre-existing imagery which includes photographs and video stills. Her paintings are characherized by an overall dreamlike atmosphere, by a combination of realism and surrealist abstraction.
Giovanna Noia’s paintings have a tendency to disorientate us, even when they depict recognisable imagery such as figures and buildings. We are often plunged into an unreliable world. In her canvases there is sometimes a darker undercurrent to what at first appear to be innocuous subjects.
