Giovanna Strada

Since the beginning, her research have been developed between design and concrete art and was based on the study of visual perception and psychological analysis. Perception and geometry are the fundamental contents of her research, in which the works are linked by a mathematical relationship. Her works, made of elementary shapes - circle and square - and the dialogue between opposing principles - black and white and complementary colors - develop in relation to their architectural context.
Through imagination and rules, passing from logic to aesthetics and vice versa, she uses logical processes and formal reductions to arrive at the essentiality of the work in which emptiness and fullness interact to form latent figures. These non-existent forms, created by our mind, invite the observer to discover real spaces and illusory spaces and to understand that two different realities coexist in our vision: physical reality and perceptual reality. In fact, what appears to the observer is not always a faithful copy of reality, because perception is a creation of our visual system.
Her installations are based on the interaction between different elements that develop and transform in space, in a dialogue between work, spa...

She studied Industrial Design at "Scuola Politecnica di Design" in Milan. Among her teachers Bruno Munari, a great figure of twentieth century art and design, and Gaetano Kanitza, one of the Italian protagonists of experimental psychology.

After her studies she collaborates with the Olivetti Corporate Identity service, where she deals with design and projects for exhibitions.This experience gives her the opportunity to become familiar with the architectural space and the dynamics of kinesthetic perception. Since 1998 she have been a partner of the Micieli Design Workshop in Milan.
