Gregory Francois

I am a renowned international film director living in Cape Town. When I am not behind the lens or chasing deadlines, I find solace behind a canvas in my home studio in Hout Bay, where I pursue one of my greatest passions.

My preferred medium is charcoal, an unforgiving material where the freshness of the line and the spontaneity at which it is applied breathes life into my work. My love of light and shade and fast-paced, loose style of drawing captures an uncanny likeness to his subject.

Each piece is a work in progress, his ultimate objective is to discover the most expressive mark.

I began my artistic career at a young age when I attended the esteemed Johannesburg school for Art, Ballet and Music, now known as the National School of the Arts.

This foundation provided an environment where I was able to hone my artistic skills from a young age whilst amplifying my natural eye and talent for creating dramatic visual creations.

I began my career as an art director in the advertising industry, working through the ranks of top ad agencies. A few years later I took the leap in a dramatic career change from ad agency creative to film director and haven't looked back.
