I was drive to drawing very young: my father was a good painter in spite of being a physician. His time to dedicate to the canvas was very short. Some kind of transference happened, and with strong backing coming from him, I caught myself drawing very much.
At first time, I become very impressed with "Flash Gordon" by Alex Raymond, "Tarzan" by Burne Hogarth , and "Prince Valiant" by Hal Foster. After them I found out Escher, Gustave Doré , Dürer and Piranesi. Here in Brazil, Marcelo Grassman and Mário Gruber were remarkable. These illustrators were my big idols and led me to attend classes at Escola Panamericana de Arte in Sao Paulo.
I started to dedicate to pointillism: its crispness allowed enhancing details and tridimendional illusions. Nevertheless, the incoming influences got bigger and better: Roger Dean, Patrick Woodroffe, Frank Kelly Freas, Norman Rockwell and of course Edward Hopper showed me the delight of the colors.
On the 70's and early 80's the good old Heavy Metal magazine brought me Moebius, Corben, Druillet, Nicole Claveloux, Gimenez, Valejo, Denis Sire, Enki Bilal and all the seriousness they used to put in their work to make very very good sci-fi and fantasy art.
All this nurtured a big mental boil...
