Hadassah Lau

Hello, I'm Hadassah Lau. I have a Hebrew name but I am truly purely Chinese. I was born and raised in Singapore, but saw the world in motels and backpacking when I was a child and have lived in Israel, the Philippines, New York City, and now am currently residing in Old Greenwich Conneticut with my husband and toddler baby girl. My life has always been kind of an adventure but a happy one, and I think it shows in my artwork!

My journey with art started years ago when I started making statement wired-art jewelry with my label, HADASITY(). I love colours and gestures which came alive in the twisting and turning of my hands into something beautiful and wasn't surprised that this love for movement and rainbows would manifest itself when I picked up brushes and paint.

When I moved from Singapore to NYC a few years ago, I decided to follow that heart's cry for painting to the next level and took a few semesters of abstract art classes at the National Academy School and Museum.

Motherhood said hello, and I would like to think I have found the perfect balance juggling painting, making jewelry and a dancing toddler to Barney in the background.

Except for having taken an abstract painting class at the National Academy School and Museum in NYC for 6 months, I made jewelry and paint completely by instinct and went to the school of exploration. In part, I strongly feel that because I never knew what the kind of art or jewelry that i was making "should look like", I found myself more free to make creative choices that were not bound by references. Of course, I am inspired and learn from so many people, movies, places and things! :)
