Simon Williams

I was born in Bromley, Kent in 1975 and from a young age had a fascination with drawing. Some of my earliest memories are of drawing although my talents then amassed to little more than stick men. I was quite an introverted child and I can't say that growing up in the suburbs of London was terribly interesting but the result was to throw me deeper into the realms of my imagination.

My work can probably be most easily described as Expressionist but is more influenced by what I read rather than other Artists, favourites being Michel Houellebecq, Albert Camus and Henri Barbusse. I am particularly interested in exploring concepts around the private and intimate moments of human life. This often imbues the paintings with a sensuality which I think fitting given that we are sensual and emotive creatures. By the same token, to some they may have a voyeuristic quality. However, we live in a world of Reality TV and Paparazzi photos splashed across our Newspapers and as a society we consume these images, ever hungry for the next insight.
