I have a background in both the arts and science. I trained as a painter at Winchester School of Art, then switched my focus to photography for many years especially when working as a psychotherapist.

Recently, since retiring, I have restarted my painting practice and studio. I am in the process of returning to the themes which interested me during my degree and beyond: big questions relating to the nature of life, humanity, beginnings and endings, the origins of life and the universe, and fundamental principles. I have repeatedly been drawn to ideas around liminal space, the boundary and the abject. I find body morphology and development, cell structure, the microscopic intriguing and morphology and topology of landscapes fascinating. This is my way of understanding the world and I find that my mind switches focus between these ideas continuously as I paint.

More recently I have been captivated by water with a fixation on reflections in water and the nature of the water surface i.e. the ripples and movement. This is mirrored in my process of application of paint and media and indeed choice of substrate, whereby I constantly endeavour to reach a place which somehow simulates the transitional, dynamic structure of the wave.
