Helen Evans

I’m Helen Evans, a contemporary artist based in Brighton, Brisbane. My practice focuses on the immediate environment around my home and studio — landscapes, gardens, and the objects within them — which I explore through richly layered acrylic paintings on board. I begin with observational drawing from life and develop these into works that combine texture, colour, and a sense of disrupted realism, inviting viewers to see the familiar in unexpected ways.

My paintings are exuberant, intensely colourful, and full of energy, reflecting a love of texture, light, and the quiet stories embedded in everyday life. I work in series, following threads of memory, place, and personal reflection, and I also offer workshops to help others build confidence and joy in their own creative practice.

Exhibited internationally and held in private, public, and corporate collections, my work seeks to evoke genius loci — the spirit of place — through a balance of observation, imagination, and layered storytelling.
