Clare Hines

My name is Clare Hines and I am an artist based in Stroud, UK. I love working with and experimenting with colour. I aim for my work to be an uplifting and joyful expression of that love... and to share that joy with viewers of my work.

I started work in advertising a long time ago and then life intervened. My art started in watercolours, taking designs and images from holidays across the world. Sea, sky and big horizons have always lofted my spirits and I could not live without them.

I started dabbling in the digital world, designing album covers; leaflets and posters and then videos for my various bands (I play the hurdy-gurdy). I progressed onto making things - using my own textile designs for a footstool and cushion range, plus actually making really hot Beanie hats!

Since 2021, I made the move back to actual painting rather than digital manipulation and have found the world of abstract expressionism in which to express my soul - it is cathartic and overwhelmingly uplifting for me.

As I said, I love the use of colour - how they sit together; how they mutate each other into seeming more; how they draw the eye and fascinate the mind.

Art doesn't have to be big - a splash of colour in the right place can open up an entire worl...
