Graham Barker (b.1966, Kent, England) is both an art director and visual-artist currently working in the medium of photography, employing both digital and analogue film.
All of his work stems from an idea or a discovery, presenting the familiar and the mundane in a surprising and unfamiliar way. His work is often completed as a series of images, exploring one or several ideas concepts at a time.
The 'Tasseography' series are a record of the micro landscapes discovered at the bottom of his morning cup of coffee. Who knows if they convey good or bad omens.
'Unknown lives' is a series of montaged photos bought from a charity shop in London called 'Past Caring' (what a great name!). There are no clues as to who these people were, so their story has been reinvented. What these final images mean is clearly up to the viewer.
'Castles in the sky' form part of a general project called ,Urbanality'. These images provide a fresh consideration of buildings old and new which may be all too familiar, bland or mundane.
