I am 53 male. I was born in England and moved to Australia as a child. I was raised on Sydney's Northern Beaches. I spent 10 years working in Melbourne and on my return to Sydney moved to Balmain and then Henley. I now reside in Stanmore with my two children.
I have worked as a professional mosaic artist for the last 15 years and completed many private and commercial commissions.
You will see the influence of mosaic in my artworks. I am obsessed with forming a whole from individual pieces. I enjoy the dimension and play of light which cannot be duplicated on a flat canvas. I love the simplicity of the finished product, especially considering how complex the works are to produce. The negative space gives a clean, modern and striking framework to showcase and highlight the picture.
Each picture is made up of hundreds of hand shaped pieces. The concept is drawn and then shaped to suit. I use depth in random pieces to create perspective. The individual pieces are mostly shaped from plywood but I have also used ceramic and glass mosaic tiles. Each piece is primed and individually painted. All pieces are then sealed or varnished.
