Izolda Griner is a Polish-born artist (1981), based currently in The Hague, The Netherlands. She obtained a baccalaureate of Fine Arts in Poland and a Bachelor of Fine Art in the Netherlands. So far she participated in various group and solo exhibitions in Poland, The Netherlands and Germany.
Her work usually reflects human states of mind, in relation to society, and nature. She employs various artistic mediums such as painting, drawing, printmaking, animation, and sporadically as well as video and sound compositions. Additionally, Griner incorporates her photography into her artistic vision.
In her early works, she expresses various existential concepts and emotions through the human body, both on paper and canvas. Strongly influenced by the aesthetics of the human body in the works of Gustav Klimt, Jacek Malczewski, and the directness of Francisco de Goya. The literature of Frans Kafka and Bruno Schulz played its role as well in Griner’s perception of human-created reality. After the Fine Arts, she briefly took part in the Master ArtScience Interfaculty at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where she put her abstract imagery into motion on 16mm films, exploring the 'direct animation' technique, inspired by Norman McLaren. For a presentation, she used a ready installation of dusty metal pipes through which the viewer could see the projections. She also explored making sound recordings and composing multi-channel abstract sound pieces which she also used in her installation. She contemplated various large-scale spacial installations, monumental sound sculptures and also the concept of cymatics and ways of incorporating this phenomenon into art.
Later on, she also studied briefly art teaching for secondary schools in The Netherlands. After gathering various life experiences, Griner's perspective on how society and the world work sharpened and became a source of inspiration.
Her latest figurative drawing series: "Uncomfortable Truths" and "Poetry of Life," explore the universal human struggles. Through her artwork and evolving storytelling, she aims to present life poetically, providing insight into the complexities and challenges of the human experience and also the human impact on nature.
