I studied at Saint Martins School of Art and graduated with BA Honours in painting. My teachers were Alan Reynolds, internationally acclaimed artist with pieces of work in the Tate collection; Timothy Hyman painter and art critic; Jennifer Durrant RA; Shirazeh Houshiary Turner prize nominee; Adrian Searle the chief art critic for The Gaurdian newspaper; Anthony Whishaw RA. My background is therefore experimental. I bring this approach to classical realism.
I also receive master classes from graduates of the Florence Academy who teach at the London Atelier of Representational Art (LARA). All instructors at LARA were trained at The Florence Academy with the exception of the founder, James Napier, who studied with John Angel at The Angel Academy in Florence.
The philosophy at LARA is that of Classical Realism, an artistic movement in late 20th century painting that places emphasis on skill and beauty while combining elements of 19th century neoclassicism and realism. The movement traces its lineage from Jean-Leon Gerome (1824–1904) through William Paxton (1869–1941) of the Boston school.
All classical realist can trace their lineage back to one or several masters of the 19th century.
