Jakki Kouffman

I have been showing and teaching painting for more than twenty-five years around the US and Western Canada. Having lived in Boston, Pietrasanta (Italy), New York City, Juneau, Santa Fe, and now St. Petersburg, Florida, I remain fascinated by innovations in acrylic technology. My work has recently led to an enthusiastic layering of contrasting textures produced by liquid mediums, solid gels, and opaque textured pastes applied with non-traditional tools. My present series explores the stark beauty of floating natural objects that seem to hover in a compact, if exuberantly textured, space. With this group, I continue my long research into floating as a metaphor for release to the unencumbered imagination.
