Yana Hudzan is a Ukrainian emerging artist, who focuses on social and individual topics and
works in mixed media painting. She looks for associative images and signs for situations and
phenomena in her life surroundings in order to understand and feel connected to herself better.
A large part of the artistic practice is a reinterpretation of the heritage of Ukrainian
grandmothers in a very ironic manner, which is represented in the "Berehyni" series. The
character interests of the artist is a unique Slavic matriarchal archetype of the Ukrainian woman.
She uses street photos from cities, residential neighborhoods, public transport, classic paintings,
Greek mythology, Christian iconography and many other references and fuses them together.
Yana studied art restoration and received her Masters degree in sacred art at Lviv National
Academy of Arts in Lviv, Ukraine.Yana is a participant in numerous group exhibitions, plain airs
and has had several personal exhibitions. Her work has been placed and sold in private
collections in Ukraine, Poland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, Finland, Spain, Ireland,
Czech Republic, France, and the UK.
