Jan Heaton

My artwork reaches for a sense of calm and tranquility. I paint what brings me peace with an emphasis on repetitive marks, organic forms, and thoughtful color. A quiet personal journey that observes the majesty of nature, and then abstractly reaches beyond the big picture. A tranquil place. My watercolors on paper are inspired by the structure, color, and pattern of elements in nature that are often overlooked. My morning walks in Laguna Beach have supplied me with unlimited subject matter. The work isolates details and and invites the viewer to an everyday object or place seen from a new perspective. A personal interpretation.

Born in Detroit, Austin,Texas is home. Art dealers in Austin, Boston, San Antonio, Houston, Atlanta, Santa Barbara, Marble Falls, and San Francisco represent my work. I also teach workshops at The Contemporary Austin Art School, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and Peninsula School of Art.
