Jenna Langford

I always felt that I needed to paint realistic portraits and landscapes. This is what I aspired to do. As a student I did well with large acrylic portraits but it felt constricted, even painful. Angles, light, shadow, tone, depth - precision. I found watercolour when I needed an outlet for creativity while on maternity leave. Something I could drop if needed with a set up/take down suitable for life as a new mom. I found it freeing. The more I did of these small abstracts the more I felt myself in the work. My authentic self this time, not my thoughts. No insecurities. These works never have intention to begin with. They evolve naturally, and tend to play into my fascination with impermanence, the earth, decay and organic matter. My process is raw and unexacting by nature - the work, honest and representative of a truer more universal self.
