Justine Formentelli is an artist whose work is shaped by a life lived across cultures. Raised between the Caribbean, Réunion Island, and Morocco, she developed an early sensitivity to light, colour, and rhythm, which continue to influence her work.
Her practice evolved from figurative painting toward a more abstract and expressive approach, while remaining inspired by organic forms and the natural world. Working primarily on paper and canvas, she creates layered compositions through intuitive mark-making and fluid gestures.
Her work explores inner landscapes through movement, texture, and form, balancing control and spontaneity. Through this process, her paintings evoke a sense of energy, connection, and quiet intensity, inviting the viewer into a contemplative visual space.
MA at the City and Guilds of London Art School.2016-2018.
BA at The Atlanta College of Arts (now part of SCAD). 1994-1998
Her work has been exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally, including solo and group exhibitions in London and across Europe. She has participated in major art fairs, curated exhibitions, and juried shows, and her work is held in private collections.
