John Sutcliffe

John questions how sensation works through image and material. His research explores the relationship between painting and the photograph. Using a variety of processes he aims to grasp the shadow, the phantom, the elusive essence of an image which has a sense of being. Working in Textured Abstract Landscape and Portrait Painting in oils, photography and printmaking. He sees the act of painting as uniting the physical with the imagination; creating an object that builds a poetic connection between the tangible and transcendent.
