Jonathan Shaw

My work is created around the theme of deconstruction and re-assemblage. Working with intricate and visually "busy" subject matter, I examine the subject through a series of very loose, expressive painting and drawing methods. The image is deconstructed with dripping paint, stenciled dots, continuous ink lines and various other spontaneous creative decisions. This process is quick, intense and without inhibition. I then reassemble the subject with new lines and paint, selectively reworking certain areas to create a finished image that integrates spontaneous expression, abstraction and focused detail.

I graduated from Mount Allison University's Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree program in 2008 and Sheridan College's Web Design program in 2009. After working as a professional designer and graphic artist for two years, I needed to return to my artistic roots and migrated to the Canadian West Coast to reintegrate visual art into my life. My studio in Vancouver's Downtown East Side is a dynamic and inspiring environment where many individuals gather to work and share their creative energies.

I continues to expand and share my style and methods while exhibiting new work in and around Vancouver.
