José Arana

Born in Miami, raised in Brazil and Indianapolis, and now a local in LA, I have been fortunate enough to travel to China and France to achieve the inspiration needed for my artwork. My focus tends to be spiritually and/or psychologically related. As a graduate from the University of Southern California, I know my education has also played an important role in the progression of my artwork.

I see artwork as an expression of the mind and the soul. It is a portal that encapsulates meaning, desire, intention and most often than not beauty. I prefer to work with acrylic paint and enjoy creating abstract works of art. As a former piano player, my process was very similar. Just as differing melodies connote specific states of being so do colors evoke emotion. Art is a game between the object and the subject. It is an inevitable interweaving of movement - whether fast or slow - that allows for the passage of time to seemingly linger as if a soft cloud when in reality clocks are ticking away. This is precisely why "time flies" when you enjoy yourself at a museum or an exhibition.
