Judith Billig

Born and raised in the German Rhine-Valley, I immigrated to New Zealand in 1999 and also spent 16 years in the United States. I returned to New Zealand two years ago and now call Christchurch my home.
Having spent years in the IT industry and raising a family, my focus shifted to my artistic passion in 2009. My artistic exploration commenced as a glass beadmaker, delving into the dynamic interplay of colors and shapes in molten glass. In recent years, I've transitioned to visual art, where my creations remain profoundly influenced by my enduring love for vibrant colors and rich textures.
My artistic passion is the creation of vibrant abstracts and emotionally charged female portraits and my artistic mission is to strike an emotional chord with those who encounter my work.
In my expressionist portraits, I breathe life into faces, aiming to capture profound emotions and the stories etched into every line and expression. While my paintings may evoke thought and even challenge the viewer, they consistently carry a message of hope and resilience.

Self-directed in my artistic pursuits, I've honed my skills through independent study, with a passion for art history (especially modern art) and color theory. My commitment to continuous learning has led me to explore diverse artistic concepts and techniques, building a solid foundation that complements my intuitive and expressive approach to painting.

My work has been shown in exhibitions, juried shows and galleries in the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle and in private collections in Europe, Australia and the US.
I also partner with well-aligned brands to license my artwork and create beautiful products and product packaging.
