There is a question Jurica Gotal has been asking for over two decades, across oil paint, industrial steel, artificial intelligence, and 3D-printed polymer: how does a physical object change the person who touches it?
Born in Zagreb in 1980, Gotal trained in traditional techniques before the intersection of technology and matter became his permanent address. His "My Life, My Decision" series - wall sculptures with functional industrial switches, each labelled with a life path -turns the act of flipping a switch into an existential decision. His "Worlds through the Digital Filter" confronts the viewer with AI-generated children's portraits that reveal not innocence, but the stereotypes encoded into the algorithms we trust to see the world for us.
In parallel, Gotal has spent years designing spaces for play - futuristic playground architecture for clients from China to the Congo, work that reached nearly one million monthly views on Pinterest. The same mind that designs where children run also sculpts objects that make adults stop.
