Jurgita Mekyte

I was born in Vilnius the capital of Lithuania. This old city has beautiful architecture which inspired many of my paintings. I lived in Vilnius until the age of 29 when I won a green card and moved to the United States. I currently reside in Crystal Lake, Illinois with my cat, Jasper.

During my elementary and high school years I always participated in art classes. When I was 19 I entered the Art Academy of Vilnius to study ceramics. I received my Bachelor's Degree in ceramics in 1991. After moving to the United States I went back to school and received a Degree in Computerized Graphic Design in 2002 from Elgin Community College.

I have exhibited my artwork in numerous galleries in the surrounding area where I live such as Algonquin, Barrington, Crystal Lake, DeKalb, Galena, Geneva, Palatine, Schaumburg and Woodstock. I have also
had my artwork in galleries in Chicago and Lemont. I currently have 6 paintings of local landmarks on display at the McHenry County Government Center and they are a part of their permanent collection. The comedian, Caroline Rhea, purchased one of my paintings when she performed at the Raue Center.
