Katarina Garcia

Hello, my name is Katarina Celeste Garcia. I attended Columbus State University, where I graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, with a concentration in painting and drawing. During my years in school I was a part of several art exhibitions, and one post graduation show in 2014 for our city's First Friday Art Walk. My works focus on what I feel the role of the artist is- to open the viewer's mind to the world we're living in today (per the artist's perspective). I utilize landscapes in my art as a recognizable expanse to reveal truths, or altered truths, in suggested or distorted ways. Landscapes typically instill peace or a sense of the banal to the viewer, unless that view is changing from what is expected, and then a question of what is truly being depicted arises. My works would utilize environmental news articles to inspire change in the peaceful scene to show how man's mark on the world is changing our Earth. Today my art is aiming to open minds to the truths of our world within both the physical, the mental, and the spiritual realms. As an artist, and as a human being, my aim is to delight and enlighten.
