After finishing her studies in Hamburg she began to illustrate children`s books while drawing numerous exclusive picture stories for the editorial department of ZEIT ONLINE the online edition of the German weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT. After years of being a graphic designer as well as a picture editor in which she held editorial responsibility for a constantly high level metaphorical language, she created her own style of vector illustrations and photo collages.
The journey continues and leads back to Katharina Langer's roots - to painting where she catches contemporary moments in oil and acrylic. In the contemporary flood of pictures and data Katharina Langer's paintings seem decelerating. They set a visually intellectual commentary with a lasting effect. Katharina believes in painting as a returning medium resisting trends and fashion.
Driven by curiosity, questioning and with a view to the essential, Katharina Langer's paintings examine the human being underneath the surface. The human beings in her pictures have a core individual goodness, which she draws out from her observations.
Quietly and without sensationalism, Katharina Langer approaches the portrayed indivudual using abstraction, form and an appropriate palette....
