Kerstin Wagner

I studied art at the Alanus Academy in Bonn Alfter and in 1989 became a member of the International Association of Art. I travelled to South America, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. In 1994 I settled in the Algarve and was a founder member of the Algarve Artists Network, a group of 24 professional artists, who support and inspire each other through their exchange of ideas and skills.
Now I divide my time, each year, between the inspiring Algarve and cosmopolitan Cologne.

I have always liked to explore and experiment beyond the traditional canvas. Ten years ago I began experimenting with pure pigments, applying them to plywood and canvas. Magazine reviews have acknowledged that my technique of using pure, pigment powder, produces a density and impact of colours that are "astonishing and vibrant, like warm velvet."

My work is based on Yin and Yang and I have also produced a series called "Letters 4 You", which incorporate pure pigments, numbers and letters, as a form of free flowing shorthand, but the shapes do not spell out actual words.
