Lambert Fernando

Born 1971 in Manila, Philippines, Lambert Fernando moved to America in the late 70's and grew up in the suburbs of Long Island, NY. Currently he works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in security management.

In my work, I examine the elusiveness of memory, childhood and I also attempt to define myself as a Filipino-American. Through a long process of painting and plastering, carving and sanding I create color fields and textures evocative of my childhood home. Using a very specific lexicon of brick figures, new homes, old trees, white silhouetted forms and other recurring motifs, memories and impressions are conjured creating a narrative of lost experiences and places long forgotten, waiting to be recalled.
