Laura O'Connor

My art practice is concerned with the representation of women in the media, and I examine how the perception of what is "real" and what is "unreal" can become blurred. Using myself in my video pieces I create a performance-to-camera style shot and set up the camera so that I am in front of it, lying, staring, grooming or exercising. Each of these works uses stereotypical images of women and highlights the struggle in maintaining a specific pose or the creation of their image.
