Laura Sissoko

I am a self-taught emerging artist. I was born 1981, Bangui, Central African Republic and immigrated to America when I was 4. I currently live and work in Atlanta. I create mixed media artworks, paintings and sculptures. In a search for new methods to make real the inner vision I have of my works, I use CNC (computer numerical control) routers to fabricate my structures, and augmented reality to animate my complex mixed media artworks. In my work, you will find references to color theory as well as avant-garde architecture, and movement as form.

My interactive mixed media artworks isolate the movements of my subjects. By doing so, new sequences are created which reveal an inseparable relationship between motion and static. By applying abstraction, the multilayered images express movement. This reveals an inherent awkwardness, a glitch, which echoes my own vulnerabilities in which the fragility and instability of seemingly certain reality is questioned. By questioning the concept of movement, the results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted.
