As an artist, I find myself paying hyper-attention to the way the world around me is composed- the beautiful, the disturbing, and the spaces in between. I am interested in how raw materials like paint and woven canvas can be manipulated to translate these experiences and create intense visceral reactions. Painting is both a meditative and physical experience for me, and I hope to create a similar atmosphere for my viewers.
I have explored painting, sculpture, and traditional wood craft; my work in each area greatly influencing the other. During my time as a student, I interned at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. As a member of the construction crew rebuilding a 15th century ship, I gained a strong appreciation for craftsmanship and material. After graduating with my Bachelor of Arts, I pursued my interest in traditional arts, and completed the year long Wooden Boat Building Program at the Great Lakes Boat Building School in Northern Michigan. I currently work as a freelance painter and woodworker in Southeast Michigan.
