To understand the work, inspiration, challenges and success of making a living as an artist for the last 48 years in Hawaii is the story of Leighton Lam. Born in October 1955, he lived in San Diego California, Chigasaki Japan, Washington DC and Beitou Taiwan before moving to Hawaii in 1966. He taught himself to surf competitively, make surfboards and art with the resin he used to glass his boards. In 1973, he had his first solo resin painting exhibit, that experience gave him the confidence to pursue a life of freedom to make art and realize the creative expression revolution of the 70’s. Leighton Lam Design’s Inc est. 1979 is the business which supports and grew from Leighton’s art, lighting and jewelry creations, family owned and operated employing 8 people and continues to give back to Hawaii’ philanthropically as well as hundreds of retail stores who rely on the sales his products.
