Our emotional lives seem of paramount importance, though seen as a condition of the human species; our experiences are fairly banal and straightforward. My paintings explore the rich, emotional tedium of intimate domestic life.
The imagery is stripped down to the essential, using acrylic with decisive "˜one pass' brushwork, in an attempt to psychologically as well as visually include only the minimum of information. The imagery has a psychosexual twist with abstract figures inhabiting both interior and landscape spaces.
The bright, vibrating colors suck the viewer in, initially promising to be a simple pleasurable, experience. Ambiguity and in some cases ominous imagery requires the viewer to look beyond the cheerful palette to decipher obscure meaning. The imagery conflates abstraction and figuration suggesting the humor and horror of domestic life.
