After a 20-year career as a professional photographer, I chose to change my focus to art on canvas. I had grown up with artists, from the Maxfield Parrish side of my family, and the smell of oil paint and mineral spirits was comforting to me. I have lived at the Oregon Coast for the last 11 years where my artistic journey began in my studio, bordered by the Necanicum River leading to the Pacific Ocean.
With my newest work, I am returning back to my love of oil paint. I am sacraficing the quick finish, for the buttery blends and long dry times. I have always been fascinated by the symbols the human form can invoke. Human beings are complicated, full of private feelings and thoughts. We put on a face for the rest of the world, but it doesn’t always match the one inside. These small canvases create miniature statements. I can only include a few elements. The touch of whimsy makes them appear as old friends and warm companions.
