Linda Kamille Schmidt

Linda Kamille Schmidt was born in Topeka, Kansas. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. In her paintings, simple geometric shapes function as game pieces, systems of measurement and other organizational devices. Schmidt works intuitively, moving the shapes about in a space filled with gestural and organic elements that echo the cellular and cosmic nature of our universe. As the lines and shapes weave in and out of the painting, some are obscured by opaque layers, hiding what is underneath. Others are left exposed or are visible through subsequent transparent layers. Schmidt’s paintings are like portals or objects for meditation; they catalyze ideas and serve as metaphors or tools to understand, explore, invent or entertain.
