My intention is to strike a balance in my paintings that will provide the viewer with a sense of introspection and meditation. The paintings have a similarity with music in that they attempt to transcend symbolism and direct imagery by eliciting an immediate and essential response. To achieve this emotional landscape in painting, I laminate fabric, paper, and other materials on wood panels. This layering captures a sense of light and gives an effect of suspension beneath the surface. This, coupled with modulated colors and gestural shapes, culminates in a familiar experience for the viewer not of a specific place but of a psychic location.
