I was born in London in 1954 and moved to Paris in the 1980s to complete my doctorate in medieval manuscript illumination. But when I had finished, I preferred to become a practicing artist rather than an academic and evolved in the Paris atelier system.
I use a camera to capture figure or object, treat the photograph digitally and paint from a transformed image. The combination of modern technology, conventional painting techniques and an art historical insight provides a powerful springboard for my transfigured vision of human experience in todays world.
I have a degree (London) and doctorate (Manchester) in history of art. In Paris, I trained as a painter with Antoine Bnard. Solo shows include Tout--fait entre nous, 2002, Figures Fetishes, Galerie Visconti, 2007 and most recently Partial Portraits, Galerie Artstarte, 2008. I have participated in group shows, most recently curating Tableaux in April 2008 at Galerie 65. ,
You can see images from my two most recent shows "Interiors" and "Intimate Images" on my website at www.louisart.net
